as far as know, salmon fishing is very seasonal, if they are not on the run, you cant catch many. ofcourse you can catch them in the harbour on the boat. But you metioned that you are going to catch them on the land. so you need wait when the salmon are running. Yes the season starts at december and ends at 31/march. normally, the mid and later feb until march are the better time.
